Voting in AERA SIG Leadership Elections

AERA voting members who are members of one or more divisions or SIGs are eligible to vote in elections of officers of those division (s) and/or SIG (s). Individuals who are members of one or more SIGs are eligible to vote in elections of officers for SIG Executive Committees. In January 2023, AERA will open the 2023 election with voting conducted by electronic ballot. Biographical statements for all candidates will appear on the ballots and will be available on the AERA website. Click here for more information on AERA elections.

Running for a RU SIG Leadership Position

Officer positions offer a great opportunity to get more involved in the SIG and develop relationships with other SIG members. Candidates must be current members of the SIG and AERA to serve as an officer. The nomination window is open from August 1st to September 30th each year. 

RU SIG Leadership Positions

Chair: The Chair shall be responsible for the general administration of the SIG, for ensuring that the SIG Bylaws are followed, and shall act as liaison between the SIG and AERA and the SIG and the SIG Executive Committee. The Chair shall preside at all meetings of the SIG’s Executive Committee and at the Annual Business Meeting. The Chair shall act as parliamentarian or shall appoint a SIG member to serve in that role for each meeting. The Chair shall appoint ad hoc committees as needed and shall appoint persons to assist officers, to chair committees, or to carry out other work of the SIG.

Assistant Chair/Chair-Elect: This position will automatically succeed the Chair at the end of his/her term, so the Chair-Elect’s primary responsibility is to prepare him/herself for the role of the Chair. The Chair-Elect should use his/her term to familiarize him/herself with any aspects of the association or the profession in which he/she lacks experience.

Program Chair: The Program Chairperson(s) shall be responsible for coordinating SIG sessions, including review of proposals, at the annual AERA meeting.

Secretary: The Secretary shall be responsible for managing any official correspondence and meeting minutes of the RU SIG. This person will also be responsible for maintaining the RU SIG website, or appointing an appropriate representative as need.

Treasurer: The Treasurer shall be responsible for managing and reporting on the financial accounts of the RU SIG and the safe keeping of all financial documents of the RU SIG.
